Early Benefits & Hot Foods for SNAP Recipients in Wake of Harvey
The Texas Health and Human Services Commission has temporarily expanded benefits to SNAP recipients in the wake of Hurricane Harvey.
SNAP recipients will be able to purchase foods like hot rotisserie chicken at Walmart and H-E-B. Burritos and other hot foods and Stripes and Laredo Taco stores. Deli stores and grocers across the state will now accept EBT for hot foods through September 30th.
From the YourTexasBenefits.com website:
September SNAP benefits are being issued early to clients in the 58 counties affected by Harvey. Some clients will also have a percentage of their August benefits replaced. Benefits will be issued by September 2.
In response to Hurricane Harvey, Texans who get SNAP food benefits can buy hot food such as rotisserie chicken and prepared foods from a store’s deli through Sept. 30 at retailers who accept SNAP.
