It’s been a while…
Since my last few posts here on Bicultural Mom, I’ve been working on lots of special projects and taking some much needed quality time with my family.
Not long ago, we celebrated Father’s Day with a grilling fest, during which my hubby actually grilled steaks three days in a row. That was fun. We didn’t used to cook steaks, because although hubby is a Texan, I didn’t grow up eating them and he’d never cooked them on his own. Maybe we can claim Texas just a little more now though, since we know how to do a steak right. ;)
Relaxing in Sioux Falls
In the days since Father’s Day, we’ve mostly spent our time window shopping, playing at the park and visiting mija’s favorite places. This summer has been a warm one, with mostly 90° days, so it was nice this week to finally have a cool down with some rainy weather.
In the photo below, she is at her toddler park riding the teeter-totter and digging with a backhoe (those things are popular here). This park is awesome because it’s not that far from where we live and it’s the only real park that is just mija’s size. She calls it her “mini park”…lol. It’s actually part of a much larger multiplex of playgrounds and butterfly gardens at Sertoma Park here in Sioux Falls.
As I’ve written about here before, another of mija’s favorite pastimes is visiting her “princess castle”…the local children’s hospital in our city. At night it’s all lit up in blue and it’s a super special place for little ones suffering from all kinds of illnesses. Sanford Children’s Hospital specializes in pediatric and neonatal intensive care. Kids come from all over the tri-state area to receive treatments here and it’s always held a special place in our hearts.
In the image below, you can see how much mija adores it. Sometimes, when we visit during the day, she’ll see a little princess up in one of the castle windows and wave to her or offer a comforting smile.
It’s just a nice little adventure that we’re going to miss if we decide to leave Sioux Falls.
What kinds of activities do you like to do together as a family?
